How Do You Feel About Mental Health?

I feel mental health is a very important issue that doesn’t get discussed as much as it should. My major is in psychology and so is my career so I’m pretty passionate about mental health

Have You Ever Dealt With Mental Health/ Depression?

Yes I’ve most certainly Have dealt with mental health/depression many times, mostly in college but I still go through it from time to time now.

How Did You Overcome It?

There were a lot of different things I had to try to overcome my depression. I tried coping by drinking a lot but that only made it worse. I would talk to my close friends and family, try to distract myself by keeping busy, pray, read motivational quotes, and just cry my eyes out. In college I usually held everything in so a lot of people didn’t know what I was going through. I didn’t have any resources offered to me while I was there though.

Do you feel like mental health should be taken more seriously with student athletes? Why?

Yes I definitely do because being a student athlete is mentally and physically draining. Staying strong and pushing through from day to day is a challenge. Many student athletes suffer from depression but don’t say anything. I feel like mental health services should be publicized more and resources should be readily available. People need to know they have a healthy way to cope with their problems and people actually care what they are going through.

I tried to handle everything on my own until I got to an all time low and had to have help.

What Are You Currently Doing With Your Life?

I’m a mental health technician. I work at an Air Force base.
