"Be Inspired" is an idea ex-college hooper of the University of Auburn Brandy Montgomery (23) and Florida Native came up with. She is now playing professional basketball overseas and wants to use her college experiences to help others. Her passion for mental health among athletes has lead her to partner with StayWhole's athletic division to help give a voice to the athletes. This column will have Q&A's with different athletes, inspirational tips, videos, and more!
My name is Candice Williams. I was born in Mobile, Alabama and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. After spending one year at James Madison University, I transferred and graduated from the University of South Alabama with a B.S. in Sports Management. I then spent one year at Florida A&M University pursuing my Master’s Degree as a graduate transfer. Over the course of my life, I’ve had to humble myself and realize that my basketball success is not the only thing that defines me as a human being. Rather it is simply a tool that has provided me the opportunity to learn about myself and to grow in all the many avenues of life. It is important that we talk about mental health and the pressures that athletes are put under by their environment and, most importantly, the mental turbulence we put ourselves through.
